PET or fabric-faced acoustic panels?

Start with the finish and construction, not the product photograph. Exposed PET felt and fabric-faced panels can both be used for room treatment, but they are not interchangeable specifications.

Two surfaces, two specification paths

In the YBS range, PET felt panels use the polyester-fibre surface as the visible finish. The material can be cut or grooved and can form flat walls or shaped elements. The fabric-faced range adds a textile facing over a polyester-fibre core. This creates a different surface texture and a separate fabric-selection process.

The distinction matters when a buyer sends a reference image. A textile-like photograph does not establish the core, the edge construction or the installation method. Identify the product family first, then confirm its format and surface.

Compare the complete assembly

The current catalogue lists PET sheets at 1220 × 2420 mm in 9 or 12 mm options, and fabric-faced boards at 1200 × 3000 mm in 9 or 15 mm options. These are catalogue references for enquiry, not an instruction to substitute one thickness for another. Confirm the final size and construction in the quotation.

A test report is useful only when its specimen and mounting conditions are relevant to the product being specified. Ask which finish, thickness, backing and installation were tested. Do not select a panel solely from an unqualified absorption number.

Choose for the intended interior

PET may suit projects that need shaped outlines, groove patterns or a material-led surface. Fabric-facing may suit cinema and listening-room interiors where a textile collection needs to coordinate with the surrounding finishes. Neither appearance establishes a fire classification or an isolation rating.

For either route, draw the wall elevation. Check panel joints, corners, edge exposure, service outlets and whether access behind the treatment will be needed. Suspended or overhead elements require an appropriate fixing design.

Use the finish reference correctly

The supplied finish reference separates 805 Linen Blend, 16 Snow Velvet and ZX59 Satin. Quote both the collection and the individual colour code, such as 805-35, rather than only asking for blue or grey. The same document also includes cork finishes, which are a separate material choice.

Lighting, display settings and print reproduction alter colour appearance. Room scenes are design illustrations, not colour-controlled photographs or proof of completed projects. Approve a physical sample under the project lighting before production.

What to send with a sample request

A useful sample enquiry connects the visual choice to the actual project. Include the details below so the reply can address supply and construction as well as colour.

  • Product family, preferred thickness and finish code
  • Wall or ceiling location, area and a marked-up elevation
  • Required quantity, destination and programme
  • Any project-specific acoustic, fire or environmental documentation required
